Baseball Physical Therapy & Performance Training in Kingsport, TN

Helping Baseball Players Stay Healthy, Throw Harder, and Perform at Their Best

Baseball places unique demands on the body. Repetitive throwing, rotational power, sprinting, and high game volume can lead to shoulder pain, elbow injuries, and performance plateaus.

At Tri Star Strength x Rehab in Kingsport, Tennessee, we specialize in sports physical therapy and performance training for baseball players across the Tri-Cities including Johnson City, Bristol, and Northeast Tennessee.

Our system combines physical therapy, strength and conditioning, and sports science testing to help athletes recover from injury, increase velocity, and stay durable throughout the season.

Baseball Performance Ecosystem

Sport-Specific Injuries We Treat

  • The shoulder experiences extreme stress during the throwing motion, especially during the late cocking and acceleration phases of pitching. Over time, repetitive throwing can lead to irritation of the rotator cuff, labrum stress, and mobility restrictions that cause pain or loss of velocity. Our sports physical therapy approach focuses on restoring shoulder mobility, strengthening the rotator cuff and scapular stabilizers, and improving total-body mechanics so the arm is not overloaded during throwing. We also see a sharp decline in testing the external rotators throughout the season, leading to poor breaking mechanics and increased risk of elbow/UCL injuries.

  • The elbow experiences some of the highest valgus forces in all of sports during pitching. When athletes develop pain on the inside of the elbow, it can indicate irritation of the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) or surrounding structures. Our baseball rehabilitation programs focus on improving shoulder mobility, strengthening the forearm and arm care muscles, and developing lower body and rotational power so the arm is not forced to generate excessive stress during the throwing motion.

  • The rotator cuff plays a critical role in stabilizing the shoulder during high-velocity throwing. Weakness, fatigue, or poor shoulder mechanics can lead to irritation or strain of these muscles, often resulting in pain, loss of command, or decreased throwing velocity. Our rehab process emphasizes restoring proper shoulder movement, strengthening the rotator cuff through sport-specific ranges, and building scapular control to help athletes throw safely and efficiently.

  • The labrum helps stabilize the shoulder joint and is frequently stressed in overhead throwing athletes. Labral irritation or tears can lead to pain, instability, and loss of velocity. Rehabilitation focuses on restoring shoulder stability, improving scapular control, and strengthening the surrounding muscles to reduce stress on the joint while rebuilding the athlete’s throwing capacity through structured return-to-throwing progressions.

  • Baseball is a highly rotational sport, and the lower back often absorbs significant stress during pitching and hitting. Limited hip mobility, poor trunk control, or weakness in the posterior chain can cause excessive load on the lumbar spine. Our rehabilitation approach focuses on restoring hip mobility, strengthening the glutes and core, and improving rotational mechanics so power can be generated through the hips instead of the lower back.

  • The hips and core are the engine of the baseball swing and pitching motion. When athletes lack hip mobility or rotational strength, the shoulder and elbow are often forced to compensate. We focus on restoring hip range of motion, improving rotational power, and strengthening the core to transfer force efficiently from the lower body through the trunk and into the throwing motion.

Baseball Performance Training

Performance training for baseball players goes far beyond traditional weightlifting.

Our programs focus on the qualities that matter most for the game:

  • Flexible, expert advice when you need it. Book hourly support across a range of topics—from planning to problem-solving. This focused consultation will help clarify your goals, map out next steps, and identify opportunities for growth.

Return to Throwing

Returning to throwing after an injury requires a structured plan. Simply resting the arm and returning to full effort often leads to reinjury.

Our return-to-throwing programs gradually rebuild arm strength, shoulder stability, and total body power so athletes can safely return to competition. Progressions are based on objective testing, strength benchmarks, and workload management.

Baseball Strength Training Programs

We offer multiple baseball training options depending on the athlete’s needs and schedule:

• In-season training to maintain strength and durability
• Offseason development programs to build power and velocity
• Remote training programs for athletes outside the Tri-Cities
• 1-on-1 sports physical therapy for injury rehab

Each program is built by Doctors of Physical Therapy and strength coaches who specialize in working with baseball athletes.

Sports Science Testing

Testing allows us to understand how an athlete produces force and power. Using Hawkin Dynamics (same tech used in MLB, NBA, NFL combine testing) force plates and other sports science tools, we measure key performance metrics such as:

• vertical jump power
• lower body force production
• asymmetries between legs
• rate of force development

• UCL Protection with FlexGrip Pro

These insights help guide training decisions and reduce injury risk.

  • "Since training with Tri Star, I’ve gained muscle, become more explosive, and increased my pitching velocity without pain. Full-body training has taken stress off my arm, and the testing metrics help identify imbalances so workouts are built exactly around what I need."

    Cam Hayworth

    Virginia Tech Commit LHP/1B

    Verified Athlete

  • "I came to Tri Star after a labrum tear with pain, weakness, and no mobility. Now I’m pain-free, stronger than ever, and my exit velo went from 92 to 104. The force plate testing shows exactly where I need to improve, and the workouts are built specifically for me and my sport."

    Ethan Roller

    Regent University 3B

    Verified Athlete

  • "I started at 125 lbs and now I’m 161 while getting faster and stronger. My exit velo is up to 92 and I’m throwing 79 mph with a healthy arm. The data tracking shows my weak spots and helps build workouts that improve exactly what I need for my game."

    Colton Masters

    Crockett HS 2B/SS/RHP

    Verified Athlete

  • "I used to have poor body control and felt like I had to throw with everything I had just to hit 90 mph. Now my mechanics are clean, my body is under control, and I can cruise at 90+ with better command. I feel stronger, more powerful, and my recovery is way better. My body can now handle the output."
